Owner speaks : Pen Ven, First 27, will be the last of the 8 yachts I've owned in over 60 years of sailing. It is possible to sum up in one simple sentence the three main qualities that attracted me when I bought her new in 2023: she is a lovely boat, very responsive to the wind, and has a particularly fine helm feel, especially upwind. Her asymmetrical spinnaker, with retractable bowsprit, is easy to manoeuvre, allows her to easily get up to overspeed, and is capable of small angles of ascent to windward. The boat is well suited to a programme of day trips, during which its inboard engine makes it easy to manoeuvre. The First 27 is also well-suited to coastal cruising, as long as you give priority to qualities under sail over interior habitability. I wish its future owner many happy hours on the water, like those I was lucky enough to enjoy.
