Joker Boat was founded in 1979 in Mola di Bari, Puglia, by Giuseppe Aiello under the name EuroNauticSport. It is not a name universally known in French or Mediterranean boating, but it is one of the few RIB yards to have maintained for forty-five years a design consistency and material quality level that explains why the 2006-2008 Coaster 650s on this page still hold the market at €35,000-€37,000 after fifteen to nineteen years of use.

Hypalon versus PVC: the difference few buyers understand before purchasing

This is the first point to understand when reading the Joker Boat second-hand market correctly, and the one sellers least clearly communicate.

RIB tubes are made from two main materials: PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and Hypalon (CSPE, chlorosulphonated polyethylene). PVC is cheaper to produce, more widespread in large series, and perfectly suited to moderate family use over a few seasons. Hypalon is the material historically used by military navies, coastguards and professional operators: more resistant to Mediterranean UV rays (which degrade PVC in 7-10 years), hydrocarbons, abrasion on slipways and thermal variations.

Joker Boat has chosen Hypalon for its main ranges since its origins — a choice that costs more to produce but explains the real lifespan observed on second-hand listings on this page. A 2008 Coaster 650 in well-maintained Hypalon has tubes still functional; a PVC RIB of the same era likely has tubes at end of life or already replaced.

Three families, three philosophies: Coaster, Clubman, Barracuda

The Joker Boat range structures around three main families corresponding to three usage profiles.

The Coaster is the family and leisure RIB — the Coaster 580 (5.85 m) and Coaster 650 (6.50-6.90 m) are designed for family outings, anchoring, swimming and day trips. They are powered with outboards of 40 to 100 hp depending on version, easily launched from a slipway and maintained without complexity.

The Clubman is the premium versatile family — Clubman 21 (6.20 m) to Clubman 35 (9.99-10.70 m) cover a spectrum from sports agency RIB to a professional-capable RIB for serious offshore navigation. The Clubman distinguishes itself from the Coaster by a more developed rigid hull, sportier lines and higher power capacity. The Clubman 28, 30, 32 and 35 are proper boats — not just inflated tenders.

The Barracuda suffix designates a sports version of an existing model: sharper lines, increased maximum powertrain, sometimes deck modifications to improve performance. It is a "sport" version within the same family, not a distinct model.

The Clubman 35 T-Top: when a RIB goes beyond its category

The most striking listing on this page is the Clubman C35 T-Top at €269,000 for a 2023 example. That is the price of a well-equipped 11-12 metre motorboat — and indeed, the Clubman 35 T-Top is a RIB that crosses the usual category boundaries. The T-Top is a semi-open helm station with fixed hard-top that protects the skipper and forward passengers from sun and spray without closing the cockpit — the architecture found on professional RIBs for rescue services, offshore oil transfers and coastal patrols.

What to check when buying second-hand

Tube condition is the primary inspection point on any second-hand RIB. Even in Hypalon, 15-year-old tubes require complete visual inspection: tube/hull joint adhesion, weld condition, material suppleness (a hardened, cracked tube is at end of life regardless of material). Ask whether tubes have been re-glued or replaced and when.

Outboard engine — Joker Boats are powered with engines of all brands. Verify annual service records, hour count and general engine compartment condition. On 2006-2010 Coasters with original engines, motor replacement is often worth budgeting.

Rigid hull — inspect hull bottoms (gelcoat, absence of cracks, antifouling condition if the boat sails in saltwater).

Joker Boat is one of the rare RIB yards whose 15-20-year-old second-hand products genuinely deserve consideration — thanks to Hypalon tube choice and the robustness of Puglian rigid hulls. The second-hand market is deep, prices reasonable, and the range wide enough to cover very different buyer profiles, from the family Coaster 580 to the semi-professional Clubman 35 T-Top. A buyer comparing a Joker Boat and a PVC RIB of similar length and price should factor in Hypalon's superior durability and the long-term resale value that comes with it.
