The Yachting Address Review — Bénéteau Flyer 7 SUNdeck
The Flyer 7 SUNdeck is the boat that pushed thousands of French buyers from “I’m still thinking about it” to “I’m signing.” Not because it is extraordinary in one specific area — but because it performs very well across every category simultaneously, within a price range the 7-meter dayboat market had never seen balanced so intelligently.
At 7.20 meters overall length, powered by a single outboard up to 200 hp, it delivers what the Flyer 6 SUNdeck cannot fully offer: a genuine cabin beneath the forward sunpad with a truly usable double berth, a cockpit wide enough for six adults around the table and significantly improved sea stability compared with its smaller sibling. That additional meter in length completely changes the onboard feeling — and the boating program the boat realistically allows.
The Flyer 7 SUNdeck generations: do not confuse them
The page often displays boats from completely different eras grouped together under the same name. Here is how to read the market correctly.
The Flyer 750 SUNdeck (2005–2013, 6.99–7.20 meters) is the ancestor of the lineage. Powered by a single 115–150 hp outboard, it already introduced the SUNdeck philosophy, although with an older hull and more traditional architecture. Well-kept 2008–2012 examples generally sell between €22,000 and €35,000 — an entry-level market for buyers wanting to discover the SUNdeck concept on a limited budget.
The Flyer 7.7 SUNdeck (2014–2020, 7.64 meters) is the stretched and more spacious version — 44 additional centimeters that translate directly into a larger cockpit and noticeably improved stability. This model is rarer on the market but particularly appreciated by its owners. 2016–2019 examples generally trade between €50,000 and €68,000.
The current Flyer 7 SUNdeck (since 2019, 7.20 meters) is the true reference version — featuring the latest-generation Air Step 2 hull, redesigned interior architecture with brighter cabin, optimized cockpit layout and the Suzuki 200 hp as the standard market configuration. This is the model dominating new and nearly-new listings between €57,000 and €80,000, and arguably the most coherent proposition currently available in this size category.
What the current Flyer 7 SUNdeck genuinely brings
The Air Step 2 hull is the primary technical argument — and unlike many marketing claims, this one is real. Developed by Bénéteau, the stepped hull design reduces water resistance by channeling air beneath the hull once the boat reaches planing speed. The concrete result: faster acceleration, lower cruising consumption and, most importantly, noticeably healthier behavior in short Mediterranean chop. At a comfortable cruising speed of 22–25 knots, fuel consumption generally remains around 25–32 liters per hour — reasonable figures for a 7-meter boat with 200 hp.
The forward cabin is the real added value compared with the Flyer 6 SUNdeck. It is not simply “a space beneath the sunpad” — it is a genuine cabin with a true double berth, small galley corner, optional refrigerator and enough headroom to sit comfortably. It allows two adults to spend spontaneous nights onboard in real comfort — not luxurious, but absolutely sufficient to transform a simple day trip into a weekend aboard.
The optional aluminum T-Top is probably the feature that most dramatically improves onboard comfort in Mediterranean conditions. Under July sun, permanent shade over the helm station and central cockpit makes the difference between a pleasant day and an exhausting one. On the used market, Flyer 7 SUNdeck models equipped with a T-Top generally resell faster and at slightly higher prices — it is a detail worth integrating into any serious search.
The Pilot Edition: is it worth the premium?
The Pilot Edition is the premium trim level of the Flyer 7 SUNdeck — pearl-grey hull, lacquered stainless rails, exclusive upholstery and additional chrome detailing. It generally adds between €5,000 and €8,000 over the standard version.
On the used market, the Pilot Edition does retain a slight premium — although not systematically. What truly drives resale value on a Flyer 7 SUNdeck remains the overall condition, engine hours and the presence of desirable equipment such as the T-Top and electric windlass. The Pilot Edition adds genuine visual appeal, but it will never compensate for poor maintenance.
What buyers should know before purchasing
The Flyer 7 SUNdeck remains trailerable — a very concrete advantage compared with boats over 8 meters. Its dry weight of approximately 1,735 kg allows transport behind a properly powered SUV or pickup truck, and launching from a slipway remains manageable for a single owner with some experience. Over ten years of ownership, the freedom to change cruising areas or avoid permanent marina fees during winter storage represents a real financial advantage.
The single 200 hp configuration remains coherent with the boat’s intended use. The absence of propulsion redundancy is the only true limitation on more ambitious navigation programs — offshore or in rougher conditions, the lack of a second engine requires a level of prudence twin-engine boats simply do not demand. For Mediterranean or protected Atlantic coastal boating, however, it remains a perfectly acceptable compromise.
The direct comparison
Against the Flyer 6 SUNdeck, the Flyer 7 delivers the genuinely usable cabin and superior sea stability — for approximately €15,000–€20,000 more at equivalent age. The difference becomes entirely justified if overnight stays form part of the boating program.
Against the Flyer 8 SUNdeck, the Flyer 7 remains more compact, easier to trailer and less expensive — but sacrifices the twin-engine setup and even larger cockpit volume of the Flyer 8. Buyers without trailering constraints and with a larger budget will naturally find the Flyer 8 more suitable for extended coastal cruising.
Against the Quicksilver 755 Sundeck, the two boats are extremely close in both philosophy and dimensions. The Flyer 7 benefits from the Air Step 2 hull and generally superior Bénéteau finishes, while the Quicksilver often offers slightly lower pricing and tighter Mercury integration.
Points to inspect before buying used
Always verify the complete maintenance history of the Suzuki DF200 with invoices — yearly servicing, impeller replacement at recommended intervals and anode inspection at every haul-out are minimum requirements. On 2019–2021 Flyer 7 models, inspect the plexiglass console seals carefully — a recurring attention point on this generation — as well as the condition of the forward sunpad and cockpit upholstery. The electric windlass should be tested throughout its entire operating range.

Our verdict: the Flyer 7 SUNdeck is currently the most balanced 7-meter dayboat on the French market. It has no critical weaknesses, genuinely delivers on its promises in real-world use, resells quickly thanks to Bénéteau’s reputation and benefits from an Air Step 2 hull that behaves noticeably better than the previous generation. For a family or couple wanting to boat from spring to autumn, spend occasional nights at anchor without frustration and preserve the freedom of trailering, it remains one of the strongest choices available within this budget range.
